After having seen Mr. Cromer in Our Town in NYC I became an instant groupie and wanted to see Streetcar even if it meant traveling to a strange town on only my second visit to Chicago. It was wonderful. I was so impressed with the place and the production.

And I've come to the conclusion that if I want to see live theatre, Chicago is it. Yes, it's fun sitting in a place that holds thousands, to see a multi-million dollar production starring someone with a famous name, but I've never walked out of the Apollo or the Royal George or Steppenwolf or Chicago Shakespeare at intermission. I have in NYC.

Congratulations Michael!

We have not met, but I am a director and actor in NYC and found your words incredibly inspiring. Your rigor and commitment to the art of theater and to building a community in which artists and audience can thrive together in meaningful conversation is exactly what the world needs more of! I so rarely get to hear a director speak so candidly to his/her passion for the potential of theater to change humanity for the better. Thank you also for Nicholas Pennell's words--I will write them down and remember them in my own work. I look forward to seeing one of your productions, and congratulations again on your award.

Best Wishes,

Walker
